Sunshine Coast Libraries “DesignAcard” competition will be extended until 20 January 2011, allowing more time for young artists to get creative and design a new library card for young adults.
Manager of the Learning Communities Branch, Ross Duncan said Sunshine Coast Libraries were aiming to showcase the wealth of talent in the community through the competition while also attracting more young people to join as members.
“There has been an extraordinary amount of interest and entries in the competition to date, and all are outstanding, high quality designs,” Mr Duncan said.
“It’s great to see the amazing talent possessed by young people on the Sunshine Coast. We can’t wait to see what else is coming our way.”
Mr Duncan said Sunshine Coast Libraries already have more than 17,000 young adult members, and were keen to attract more young adults to enjoy the diverse products and services available.
“Libraries are more than a place to go and borrow books. They also feature free internet access, online interactive gaming and many other activities for young adults, offering many opportunities to connect with each other.”
DesignAcard workshops will be held in Sunshine Coast Libraries in early January 2011.
The competition will now close on 20 January 2011, extended from 29 October 2010. Entries will be shortlisted by a community panel in February, with winners chosen by an online vote held on the Sunshine Coast Libraries website.
The new library cards featuring the winning designs will be released in March 2011.
