SCRUFFFY, the Sunshine Coast Regional Underground Film Festival For Youth, is an Australia-wide short film competition run as part of council’s YouthLinx program.
This year’s festival has thousands of dollars in cash prizes and showcase spots up for grabs, plus free film screenings, workshops and forums with professional filmmakers and artists.
Aspiring filmmakers can submit their 2-5 minute flick in one of five competitions – comedy, animation, short narrative, horror and x-treme shorts (extreme sports).
Each competition is divided into under-18 and over-18. Winners will be chosen from each competition and overall finalists will have their short film screened at the Kings Beach Amphitheatre festival showcase, with the chance to compete for the Best in Festival prize of $2,000.
The film festival competition screenings will kick off in June 2009, with screenings at the Sunshine Coast Show on 12 and 13 July, and at the Homegrown music festival on 20 June.
Judges for the festival competition include Baz McAlister (TimeOff interval editor), Andrew Leavold (Trash video owner), Gary Crew (international best-selling children’s author), and Max Bannah (QUT animation lecturer), with more judges to be announced soon.
SCRUFFFY is proudly sponsored by media partners TimeOff, Hot 91, Noosa Community Radio and prize partners Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas, Freestyle Shirts, Mad Clown Industries, Skateside Mooloolaba, Laserzone, Goodlife Health Centres and Bandprint.
