Festival Lakeside is a new event for the Sunshine Coast, incorporating leading bands, food and wine at the outdoor stage area on the banks of Lake Kawana. It follows on from the success of Ladies of the Lake and Sundays Lakeside.
For a gold coin donation, this all-ages gig will feature non-stop music from 5pm till 10pm. The line-up includes Idol favourite Bobby Flynn and four up-and-coming bands.
A highlight act is Brisbane musician Andrew Morris, who has released two critically acclaimed albums and travelled the world last year as lead guitarist in the backing band for Bernard Fanning’s successful Tea & Sympathy solo tour.
Another head-turning Brisbane performer, Emma Dean, will perform tracks from her album Real Life Computer Game. Known to listeners of ABC Coast radio, Emma has been compared to Clare Bowditch and Kate Miller-Heidke for her theatrical stage performances that feature seamless transitions between playing violin and lead vocals.
The folk/rock/blues band, The Travelling So & Sos, and the students of Kawana State College, will round out the evening’s entertainment.
Festival Lakeside will be hosted by special guest presenter, Honor, from Sea FM Morning Crew.
Food and drinks from around the world will be for sale at the venue, which also has bar facilities. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring along picnic gear and enjoy the coming of summer with friends and family – but please note this is a “no BYO alcohol” event.
If it rains, the concert will go ahead inside the Lake Kawana Community Centre. All profits go to the Sunshine Coast Children’s Therapy Centre and Integrated Family and Youth Services.
