The young performers from Flipside Circus are ready to bring the wow-factor to Lake Kawana Community Centre these school holidays with their jaw-dropping new show CircUS.

Featuring acrobats aged from just eight to 17 years, CircUS stars some of Brisbane’s most thrilling youth circus talents, showcasing tricks, flips and aerial work that will amaze audiences of all ages.

Show Director, Natano Fa’anana said CircUS explores the corner stone of the circus code – support.

“Using the physicality of both traditional and contemporary circus methods, Flipside challenges the boundaries of a typical circus show and plays with the concept of support. CircUS is about US – the young people in circus,” he said.

“Young people aren’t that much different from adult circus performers, we’re all young at heart. Sure there is a risk element, but safety is always in our sights and once you gain the respect of a young person, their energy and commitment can be directed towards a common goal, as seen in CircUS.”

This hour of pint-sized power demonstrates the dexterity and determination, capability and confidence that circus training offers, and is rapidly becoming Brisbane’s ‘new ballet’ in terms of popularity with kids and parents alike.

Natano points to the emphasis on support, rather than competitiveness, which is inherent in Brisbane’s circus scene.

“Circus is a very accepting community, embracing all shapes and sizes. The beauty of circus is that young people can be themselves, have the ability to create freely and safely, all while getting fit and strong,” he said.

“There is something for everyone in circus.”
