Sunshine Coast residents don’t have to travel to Brisbane to get a taste of the Picasso & his collection exhibition currently showing at the Gallery of Modern Art; they can simply attend the Lecture Tour at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery on Sunday 20 July.
Organised to compliment the exhibition, the Lecture Tour will be presented by Julie Ewington, Curatorial Manager of Australian Art at the Gallery of Modern Art.
According to Sunshine Coast Council’s Public Program Officer, Robert Natoli, the free lecture offers local residents an insight into the ideas and themes central to the Picasso & his collection exhibition.
“Julie Ewington will delve into details about Picasso’s inspirations and influences during the time he created the works in the exhibition,” Mr Natoli said.
“The audience will walk away with a greater appreciation and better understanding of both the artwork and the artist.”
This is the first exhibition of Picasso’s personal art collection outside Europe, and the Lecture Tour is the perfect accompaniment according to Queensland Art Minister Rod Welford.
“The exhibition includes more than 100 works from Picasso’s extraordinary personal collection, plus more than 80 important works by the artist himself,” Mr Welford said.
“In addition to paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures from the 17th through to the late 20th century by more than 35 artists including Matisse, Renoir, Cézanne and Miro, there are Oceanic and African works dating from the sixth century BCE.”
The Lecture Tour is on at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery on Sunday 20 July from 2pm. Bookings are recommended. Contact the Gallery on 5420 8299.
