Not-for-profit groups can register their interest with Sunshine Coast Council for the opportunity to present a flag raising ceremony on Australia Day from 2018.

From 2018-2020, council is proposing to sponsor one or two not-for-profit organisations to deliver one or both flag raising ceremonies, including an Australia Day flag raising ceremony at Kings Beach and a second location to be determined with the successful group/s.

Ideally this would be in one of the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland communities to cater for non-coastal residents wishing to participate in a formal Australia Day event.

The flag raising ceremony may be included as part of an existing event or be a new initiative for a local community, attracting new audiences.

The successful groups would be engaged by council as part of a three-year sponsorship agreement and would receive financial support of up to $3000 per ceremony, annually.

The sponsorship agreement would include Australia Day flag raising ceremonies for 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Expressions of interest close at 5pm on Tuesday, February 28.

If your not-for-profit group is interested in this opportunity, you’re welcome to attend council’s 2017 Australia Day flag raising ceremony on Thursday, January 26 at 7.30am at Lions Park, Kings Beach, to understand what the ceremony includes.

For more information and applicant guidelines please contact council’s Civic and Community Events team on 5420 8808 or email [email protected].

The 2017 Australia Day flag raising ceremony will be hosted by Division Two Cr Tim Dwyer and will include a Welcome to Country, and the raising of both the Australian flag by cadets from both Air Force and the Navy, and the Aboriginal flag.

Australia Day ambassador, local high-profile chef and regional food ambassador Matt Golinski will be the special guest speaker.
