Sunshine Coast Council’s holiday parks are anticipating a busy Easter school holidays with the first four days, starting from Good Friday, mostly booked out and only limited places remaining for the first week of the two-week break.

The holiday parks are seeing the benefit of their “extend your summer” promotion, although there is still some room for more visitors in the second week, Sunshine Coast Council CEO Michael Whittaker said today.

“Camping over Easter is a traditional family favourite activity and the Sunshine Coast is a great destination with many options available,” Mr Whittaker said.

“Our council-owned holiday parks are an ideal location from which to explore the region.

“The beautiful beaches, and great variety of towns and communities, combined with the natural wonders of our hinterland that includes the Glasshouse Mountains and Blackall Ranges, means our region has broad appeal to both domestic and international visitor markets.

“The Easter bookings have again been very strong but we still have some vacancies for the second week, so if you know of friends or families thinking about heading here for the break, pass the word on.

“These holidays are a great chance to check out our Cotton Tree Holiday Park which was recently rated No.4 in Queensland and the second best in the south-east corner.

“Work has been completed on the new powered sites section of Coolum Beach Holiday Park which is now open for use.”

Council operates six beachside holiday parks, at Dicky Beach, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Cotton Tree, Mudjimba and Coolum.

National Visitor Survey figures (NVS) released by Tourism Research Australia (TRA) earlier this month, showed a 2% increase for the region to 2.9 million visitors – an additional 53,000 domestic visitors.

Overall visitor nights were up 2% to 10.9 million visitor nights (173,000 additional visitor nights) and tourism expenditure was stable at $1.8 billion for the year

The best performing sector for the region was holiday travel, up 9% to 1.7 million visitors, and business travel was up 4% to 210,000 visitors.
