Hip chicks, heroines and history

In celebration of Anzac Day and in partnership with Voices on the Coast, Sunshine Coast Council presents a night with author Pamela Rushby at Maroochydore Library on Thursday, April 24 from 6 to 7.30pm.

Born in Queensland and still residing in Brisbane, Pamela is a writer of all trades. She’s written everything from children’s books to television scripts and commercials. Her children’s and young adult fiction titles include Flora’s war, The horses didn’t come home and When the hip chicks went to war just to name a few.

As long as Pamela can remember, she’s been a reader. And ever since, at the age of six, encountering a photograph of Enid Blyton seated at her desk in an English country house, dogs at her feet, probably engaged on rattling out another Famous Five adventure, she decided that she wanted to be a writer.

She achieved this after taking the long way round of working as an advertising copywriter, a publicity officer and a pre-school teacher, studying ancient history, journalism and art history and writing and producing for television.

Join Pamela as she talks about writing faction - the art of mixing fiction and fact in your novel. Copies of Pamela’s books will be available for purchase on the night.
