Head to your library to obtain tips to save money

Find out how to prioritise your spending needs and wants at the free Saving Money information sessions at Sunshine Coast Council’s library branches in February.

If you would like some hints and tips around managing your money, make sure you join Linda Stacey from The Smith Family Saver Plus Program to gain handy money saving tips.

The Saver Plus Program assists people on lower incomes to strengthen their financial skills and save for educational costs. Eligible Saver Plus participants receive up to $500 in matched savings to help pay for educational costs for themselves or their children including school uniforms, textbooks, excursions, laptop, music tuition, dance classes, TAFE, traineeship or apprenticeship costs, sporting fees and equipment.

People may be eligible to join the Saver Plus Program if they or their partner:

• have a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card;
• are at least 18 years of age or over;
• have some regular income from work; and
• are a parent or guardian of a child at school this year or are attending or returning to vocational education themselves.

Linda Stacey said in May 2015, the Australian Government committed $2.9 million to support the award-winning Saver Plus program over the next five years, together with a $17.5 million commitment from ANZ.

“Since its commencement, more than 26,000 people have joined the program nationally and saved more than $15 million,” she said.

“Available in more than 60 locations nationally, Saver Plus is Australia's largest and longest running matched savings and financial education program.

“I encourage people on lower incomes to attend the session to obtain tips on how to prioritise their spending by applying the concept of needs and wants and to see if they are eligible for the Saver Plus Program.”
