Have your say on the future of Noosa Heads Lions Park

Putting community visions into action for a popular Noosa park is only a hop skip and a jump away as the draft landscape concept plan is now available for feedback.

In March 2011, Sunshine Coast Council invited Noosa Heads residents and the wider community to share their ideas and shape the vision for Noosa Heads Lions Park, located on the corner of Noosa Drive and Noosa Parade, Noosa Heads.

Division 11 Councillor Russell Green said council had carefully evaluated the feedback and was pleased to present the draft Noosa Heads Lions Park Landscape Concept Plan for comment.

"The park design aims to convey and encapsulate the visionary themes and ideas that emerged from the initial consultation," he said.

"Significant support from the community was shown towards retaining the park’s current character and green, open uncluttered space whilst adding to and improving existing facilities.

"Residents also considered the importance of protecting and enhancing the community space for the existing major events."

Cr Green said Lions Park is most notably known as a staging area for several large community events that are hosted in the park each year including the Noosa Triathlon, Noosa Food and Wine Festival and the Noosa Winter Festival.

"Council has developed a plan for the park that enhances the existing park facilities and improves the environmental, recreational, aesthetic, social amenity and the ability to host a limited number of major events for a wide range of user groups," Cr Green said.

"I encourage residents to take the time to have a look at the draft plan and let us know your views to ensure that the final outcome is reflective of the community’s needs and aspirations."

Cr Green said council would collate the community feedback and use it to guide the finalisation of the landscape concept plan.

"This concept plan and the identified priorities will guide the detailed design, construction and refurbishment of key parkland elements in a staged process of implementation over future years, subject to funding."

Council has scheduled capital funding for construction over the next three years.

Some of the park features in the draft landscape concept plan include:

• Continuing to maintain infrastructure for limited major events
• Improving pedestrian links and park entry points
• Upgrading the existing BBQ and play areas
• Improving the subsurface drainage throughout the site
• Maintaining the green open space character
• Revegetation and weed management to the hillside
• Upgrading the existing toilet block and shower facilities
• Passive seating and viewing area on Noosa Sound.
