Local residents and visitors can now get up close to a very special part of the Sunshine Coast following the completion of the first stage of the Mountain Creek Recreation Trail.

The new trail, built with funds from council’s Environment Levy, has been designed in close consultation with the Mountain Creek community and includes a 2km network of broad walking tracks through the Mountain Creek Conservation Area.

Access is from entry points at Coho and Felicia Courts and from Glenfield Boulevard. Each features orientation signage and leads to two timber bridge viewing areas.

Local division 6 Councillor, Christian Dickson has shared the six month planning process and enthusiasm for improved access to the unique area with local residents.

“It’s hard to overestimate the value of such a beautiful recreational area right on Mountain Creek and Glenfield’s door step,” Cr Dickson said.

“It invites you to get out of bed a bit earlier to enjoy a healthy walk on the new trails before the day starts or to appreciate a quiet corner at any other time knowing conservation areas like Mountain Creek preserve the Coast’s unique flora, fauna and their habitats.

“It has been fabulous working with the community on this project and I hope local residents using the park will continue working with council to maintain the area by keeping dogs on leashes and reporting to council any concerns so they can be investigated”.

Further work is planned for the recreation trail in Stages 2 and 3 commencing later this year.

This will include interpretive signage highlighting important features of the conservation area, seating and natural landscaping at the access points.
