Get set to Colour the Street in Nambour

Horizon festival of arts and culture will hit the streets of Nambour with Colour the Street on Saturday, September 3 from 4pm-8.30pm.

Colour the Street is a free community event celebrating all things creative and colourful including the lighting up of the iconic Howard Street cane train tracks.

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski invited the community to come along and join this urban block party.

“Colour the Street will feature an exciting range of performances and activities the whole community can enjoy,” Cr Baberowski said.

“There will be a great line up of live music, Indigenous performers, slam poetry, spoken word, street theatre, projections and dance.

“There’s also children’s playshops, a circus playground, hula hoop workshops, a cane train lantern, roving Steam Punk performers, lantern parade, laser light show, fire spectacular and a visual arts exhibition in the Old Ambulance Station.”

The street will be transformed with incredible 3D chalk art by local artist Brian Tisdall and visiting national 3D pavement specialists. The community will also have its chance to chalk the street and the kids can enjoy chalk art workshops.

Check out The Pod Lounge and The Art of Storytelling, with a fresh line-up of slam poetry, words, art and music by local songstress Andrea Kirwin.

To feed the body as well as the mind, an array of delicious cuisine will be available through food stalls and the Tramway Bar is on track to quench thirsty party goers.

Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson thanked local businesses for their support of Horizon festival.

“Our fantastic local Nambour businesses are embracing the artistic vibe and will be transforming their shop windows in to galleries by displaying works by local artists to create a street long gallery,” Cr Rogerson said.

“ The Long Gallery will stretch along Howard and Currie streets in a 10 day community exhibition showcasing local artists.

“Make sure you take a walk and check out the talent on display and the works available for purchase.”

When the street party comes to a close, the fun won’t stop there.

Head to the Old Ambulance Station’s Black Box Theatre at 8.30pmfor Alice, Dorothy & Wendy - a theatrical, cinematic and musical adaptation of local author Nycole Prowse’s award winning poetry by coast musical composer Mark Ferris.

Alice, Dorothy & Wendy draws upon the literary worlds of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, L. Frank Baum’s _The Wonderful Wizard of Oz_ and J.M Barrie’s _Peter Pan_ to re-imagine the journeys of these three female protagonists.
