Art lovers across the region can look forward to seeing works by leading local and Australian artists at Caloundra Regional Gallery throughout 2018 with an outstanding exhibition program revealed today.

Work by artists including Laith McGregor, Jandamarra Cadd, Kathleen McArthur and Michael Foley will be ~~~~ showcased at the gallery in 2018.

This is in addition to exhibitions of work by new, up and coming and established artists in the annual Local Artists Local Content Art Prize, and the signature Sunshine Coast Art Prize exhibition.

The year will close out with a touring exhibition that features historical and contemporary works from the Girringun community titled Mangaan: gather, gathers, gathering. The exhibition has been organised by the South Australian Museum and Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre and toured by Museum and Galleries Queensland.

Exhibiting artists and guests gathered at the gallery for the launch.

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski was proud to launch a full year’s program of exhibitions.

“This year the gallery team have put together a first-class program of exhibitions with a focus on local artists and those with a strong connection to the region,” Cr Baberowski said.

“What better way to open the program than with nationally ~~~~ renowned artist Laith McGregor, who is originally from the Sunshine Coast.

“Laith was a finalist in the 2016 Sunshine Coast Art Prize so I’m looking forward to seeing his exhibition which will also travel to Tweed Regional Gallery in late 2018.”

Hamish Sawyer said this year’s exhibition program reflected the diversity of contemporary visual arts practice on the Sunshine Coast and beyond.

“The program also acknowledges the contribution of significant historical figures,” Mr Sawyer said.

Wild/flower Women II curated by Susan Davis and Nina Shadforth, will include works by the pioneering Caloundra artist Kathleen McArthur, alongside contemporary Sunshine Coast artists Marvene Ash, Shannon Garson, Anne Harris and Ulrike Sturm who pay homage to McArthur with their own responses to the natural landscape.”

An artist’s impression of the new multi-purpose space, The Artroom, was also unveiled today. The new space will allow the gallery to offer a wider variety of programs, events and workshops. The Artroom will open in March.
