Caloundra Regional Gallery will undergo exciting renovations next month designed to create The Artroom, a dedicated public program and workshop space.
The gallery will close from Monday, January 29 and reopen on Wednesday, March 7 with the exhibition, Laith: McGregor: Borrowed Time.
Gallery curator Hamish Sawyer said public programs were an important way to engage audiences with an exhibition.
“With any gallery exhibition, public programs such as artist talks and creative workshops, are a great way to explore the inspiration behind the artist’s work and give workshop participants the opportunity to develop new skills,” Mr Sawyer said.
“Without a dedicated program space the number of programs we can offer is limited.
“The fantastic new multi-purpose, indoor-outdoor space will increase our capacity and allow us to offer a wider variety of programs, events and workshops.”
The renovations will also include a new reception desk to create increased retail space for local artisan products in the Gallery Store and a dedicated space for artwork storage to safely house Sunshine Coast Art Collection works and works on loan for gallery exhibitions.
While the gallery is closed, take the time to visit the Maroochydore Library Artspace and enjoy the new exhibition Technography, by Cherylynne Bullen, on display until February 24.
Selected works from the Sunshine Coast Art Collection will also be on display in council customer contact centres, libraries and The Events Centre.
Collection works on display include:
Lincoln Austin, Imperfect Pattern LXII 2015 Caloundra foyer
Margaret Loy Pula, Anatye (Bush Potato), 2010 Nambour foyer
Donna Davis, Beyond the Seed, 2015 Maroochy on First foyer
Michael Cook, Stickman, 2010 Maroochydore Library, level 1
Selected works by David Fairbairn and Brian Allison The Events Centre, Caloundra
Due to building works, there will be no Friday3Live at the gallery during February.
