Sunshine Coast residents won’t be short of a party this weekend with four Festival of Community Hall events on offer as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast, as well as a special celebration at one of the Coast’s oldest kindergartens.

Grab the kids and head along to the free event at Brookes Street Community Kindergarten in Nambour from 3pm on Saturday, September 9. Children will be amused for hours with face painting, balloon art and a family movie night.

This special occasion marks the 50th anniversary of both the kindy and the naming of the Sunshine Coast and is sure to be a delightful afternoon for the whole family.

The popular Verrierdale Full Moon Dance Party will be held on Saturday, September 9 from 7pm at the Verrierdale Community Hall. This year they celebrate their 30th anniversary and the evening will include a number of iconic live music acts. The event attracts a huge range in ages as 70-year-olds get out on the dance floor along with many in their 20s and 30s. Tickets are $30 on the door.

Also on Saturday night, the Belli Community Hall is hosting an evening of dancing and delicious country supper to celebrate their 85th anniversary from 7.30pm. Music will be provided by the Sunshine Swing Band and a great night of old time dancing is assured. Bring your family and friends, enjoy a scrumptious supper and dance the night away. Adults are $14 and students are $5. This is an alcohol-free event and tea, coffee and cordial will be available.

For the two-wheeled enthusiasts, the 2017 Obi Obi Motorcycle Show will kick off at 9am on Sunday September 10, at the Obi Obi Hall. Entries for the Show and Shine will close at 11am and there will be plenty of activities on offer including live music by the Spirit Coasters, market stalls, kids’ activities, food and drink as well as an on-site bar. Entry is $5 for adults and children are free.

Finish off your weekend at the Ridgewood Community Hall with an afternoon of assorted musical entertainment including folk, modern jazz, gypsy, blue grass country and classical provided by local singers and musicians. Entry is only $2 and the event will run from 3-5pm.

All events listed have been supported by Sunshine Coast Council’s 50th Anniversary Fund.
