Local residents, environment groups, indigenous and community representatives can now register their interest in joining a consultation group on the proposed options for the Maroochy River entrance.

Council last month resolved to form the Maroochy River Estuary Consultation Group (MRECG) which will be led by an independent chair with membership structured to ensure balanced regional representation.

Standing members of the group will include representatives from:

  • State Government agencies;
  • The Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce;
  • The University of the Sunshine Coast; and
  • Surf Live Saving Queensland.

In addition, up to three representatives from estuary interest groups, including local surf clubs, environmental groups and Indigenous community representatives, and three community representatives from across the Sunshine Coast will be appointed to the group.

These non-standing members will be sourced via an expression of interest process.

Full details about the community consultation process, the Maroochy River Estuary Consultation Group, including the group charter and expression of interest forms are now available on the “community engagement” section of council’s website.

Expressions of interest can be submitted by close of business Monday, May 22.

Advice from the Maroochy River Estuary Consultation Group and previous correspondence will be presented, along with direct community feedback, in a report to council in December 2017.
