Entries closing soon for Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2017

Time is running out to submit your artwork for this year’s Sunshine Coast Art Prize, with entries closing this Friday, March 31.

Time is running out to submit your artwork for this year’s Sunshine Coast Art Prize, with entries closing this Friday, March 31.

A cultural initiative of Sunshine Coast Council, the Sunshine Coast Art Prize is a leading national contemporary two-dimensional acquisitive art award sponsored by Audi Centre Sunshine Coast.

With a prize pool of more than $30,000, the prestigious national award has already attracted quality submissions from a range of well-known and emerging artists.

Previous winners (in order of most recent) include: Michael Cook, Robert Fenton, Matthew de Moiser, Celeste Chandler, David Fairbairn, Margaret Loy Pula, Miles Hall, Peter Hudson, Scott Redford, Tony Albert and Shane Pickett.

Angela Goddard, director of Griffith Artworks, has been selected as this year’s judge of the Sunshine Coast Art Prize.

Angela is responsible for the Griffith University Art Collection and the Griffith University Art Gallery. She joined the University in June 2015, after 15 years at QAGOMA, seven of these as Curator of Australian Art.

The Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2017 offers a prize pool of more than $30,000 in cash and prizes including:

  • An acquisitive major prize of $25,000 cash sponsored by Audi Centre Sunshine Coast and Sunshine Coast Council;
  • A non-acquisitive Highly Commended prize of $5000 sponsored by the De Deyne family;
  • A non-acquisitive People’s Choice prize of $2500 sponsored by Caloundra Chamber of Commerce;
  • A Sunshine Coast Art Prize Residency sponsored by Montville Country Cabins and Caloundra Regional Gallery.

Online entries are now open and will close at 5pm on Friday, March 31.

Forty finalists will be selected and showcased in an exhibition to be held at Caloundra Regional Gallery from August 17 to October 8. The winning artwork will be acquired into the Sunshine Coast Art Collection.

Entry is open to any Australian resident.
