Celebrate the 70th anniversary of Children’s Book Week with light, laughter, books and fancy dress at Council’s library branches from August 22 to 28.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spent a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators.
“In 2015 the Children’s Book Council of Australia celebrates its 70th Anniversary and this year’s theme is Books light up our world,” Cr McKay said.
“Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories to highlight the importance of reading.
“Council’s libraries will be joining in the celebration with storytelling sessions followed by craft activities in library branches and in Cotton Tree Park.
“To add to the fun, children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character during the sessions or when they visit the libraries during Children’s Book Week.”

The Children’s Book Council of Australia presents the annual Book of the Year awards and the winner will be announced on Friday, August 21 to kick start the celebrations.
This year’s nominated shortlisted books include titles by Aaron Blabey, Steven Herrick and Libby Gleeson.
