The children’s version of Mao’s Last Dancer, The Peasant Prince, will bring Sunshine Coast Council’s Lake Kawana Community Centre stage to life in a remarkable production by Monkey Baa Theatre Company on Wednesday, July 13 at 10am and 1pm.

The moving story of Mao’s Last Dancer has inspired many as we saw a young boy required to make extraordinary decisions, embrace the unknown, and rise above all that would seem to distract him from following his dreams.

With strong themes of belonging, hope, motivation and loneliness, there’s no doubt that this truly incredible production will also encourage others to overcome fear and follow their dreams.

The Peasant Prince introduces Li, a 10-year-old peasant boy who is plucked from his village in rural China and sent to a ballet academy in the big city of Beijing.

He leaves everything and everyone he loves, including his family.

Over years of gruelling training, we see a young boy transform from an impoverished peasant to a giant of the international dance scene.

Li’s courage, resilience and unwavering hope for a better life makes The Peasant Prince a story to ignite your own aspirations.

Monkey Baa is honoured to be working closely with Li to adapt The Peasant Prince for the stage, and audiences will be captivated by this very personal story, which is truly a 20th century fairytale.

Tickets to this production are affordable for the whole family at just $19 per person and a special SCvip Member price of $17 per person.

There are limited tickets remaining for the show, so bookings are essential. To book please call Lake Kawana Community Centre on 5413 1400, or visit www.scvenuesandevents.com.au.

The Lake Kawana Community Centre is located at 114 Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina. Parking is available at the venue.
