With welcome rain over the past week comes unwelcome potholes.

The chances are many road users have hit their fair share of irritating potholes, so Sunshine Coast Council is urging residents to keep their eyes peeled and report damaged roads.

During the wet spell our roads have held strongly, however some areas across the Coast have had more significant weather impacts, under the downpours.

Council crews have been busy patching potholes and are welcoming the community’s assistance in locating any that have emerged during the recent deluge.

Council looks after 2972 kilometres of local roads and bridges.

Customer Service Portfolio Councillor Ted Hungerford said safety is paramount when it comes to locals and visitors on our roads.

“It’s council’s number one priority to keep our roads and users safe, so we have repair crews closely monitoring and maintaining emerging potholes,” Cr Hungerford said.

“However, we always appreciate the community’s efforts in alerting us to any repairs needed, especially on local residential streets.

“So please don’t hesitate to let us know if there is a pothole near you – the quicker our team knows about the job, the quicker it’s actioned and filled.”

To report a pothole on a council road, you can lodge an eRequest online, chat with a Customer Service Officer using council’s Live Chat, or contact council’s Customer Contact Centre on 5475 7272.

Alternatively you can email [email protected] or visit council’s website at sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

To report a pothole on state-controlled roads, please contact the Department of Transport and Main Roads on 13 19 40. A list of state-controlled roads across our region is available at www.tmr.qld.gov.au.

Council is also reminding the community to take care during wet weather.

Have you thought about what would happen if flood waters cut off your home? What if you couldn’t contact your loved ones?

Now’s the perfect time to create your ‘WHAT-IF’ plan:

• Ensure your insurance is up-to-date and it covers your assets adequately.

• Check your street and suburb for flood prone areas and be aware.

• Store a spare supply of fuel and ensure you retain it safely in an appropriate container.

• Have wide masking tape for car windows on standby.

• Store blankets or a hail cover in your car.

• Keep bottled water and dry food/snacks in your car if you are away from home as well as a mobile phone charger.

When a severe weather warning is issued:

• Park vehicles undercover.

• If you don’t have undercover access for your vehicles, firmly secure blankets or quilts over them to minimise hail damage and park away from trees, power lines and waterways.
