Sunshine Coast Regional Council Deputy Mayor Tim Dwyer will officially open the new $6.3million four lane access road into the Sunshine Coast Airport this Friday 12 December.
Sunshine Coast Airport General Manager Peter Pallot said Runway Drive is the culmination of two year’s planning by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council to meet the future growth potential of Sunshine Coast Airport.
“The new road provides a critical transport link for both visitors and residents and will provide benefits of increased safety and accessibility to the airport as well as the many businesses within the Runway Drive Estate.
“This impressive new gateway has been designed to reflect the feel and diversity of our region and I’m sure locals and visitors alike will be pleased to see the end of the holiday traffic snarls at the old Friendship Drive intersection,” Mr Pallot said.
Mr Pallot said Runway Drive was a result of close co-operation between the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and the Department of Main Roads to ensure that an integrated traffic solution was delivered to the residents and businesses of the North Shore as well as the broader community.
“This project demonstrates how Local and State Government departments can work together to deliver a major piece of road infrastructure not only on time but within budget.
“I congratulate staff from Council, Main Roads, the Airport and our numerous contractors on this outstanding achievement,” he said.
Runway Drive will be open for access to the Sunshine Coast Airport on Monday 15th December and the former access via Friendship Avenue will be closed.
