From the Caloundra coastline to the Hinterland hills, the many diverse communities within Division 1 are set to benefit from the extensive range of projects budgeted for the next 12 months.
The $237 million Sunshine Coast Council capital works budget is on track to deliver a region – and a future – that is healthy, smart, creative.
Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said local residents would appreciate the $7.4 million allocated to improve, enhance and invest in a safer, more attractive and better-connected community.
“I am pleased and confident that the 2017/18 budget strikes the right balance between both coastal and hinterland communities,” Cr Baberowski said.
“Maintaining current assets to a high standard and building new infrastructure, which continue to grow a strong community are key priorities and are reflected in the coming year’s budget.
“A $1.78 million investment will see the planning, detail design and commencement of Aura’s first community centre and resource the sports club to take shape, while other expenditure will focus on maintaining and enhancing existing local amenities.
“An ongoing key safety priority is the staged widening and sealing of Pikes Rd, Glass House Mountains ($550,000). This project will significantly upgrade road functionality by increasing lane widths in both directions.
“I think all locals would recognise that it's time to upgrade this link road which services very active local farms and businesses while also having incredibly beautiful mountain views. It is really good to see it being made safer for locals and tourists to travel.”
Cr Baberowski said sports and parks remain high priorities to continue building our sense of community.
“We’ll be investing a further $400,000 into the continued staged implementation of the Glass House District Recreation Park master plan, which is set to become an exceptional new District Park for our part of the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Baberowski said.
“Members and visitors will also be happy to know the Roberts Rd, Beerwah pool and skate park will receive an additional $265,000 towards the next stage of design and construction of a much better sealed car park.
“Bellvista locals will be happy to hear that $50,000 has been allocated to renew the existing exercise equipment at Bellvista Park, helping our community enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
“Bellvista Park is the perfect spot for an exercise station. It’s a really attractive and centrally located open space, with plenty of natural shade in the area.
“The 2017/18 budget will help deliver a confident and secure future for Division 1 by providing the funds to sensibly maintain, enhance and construct new infrastructure.”
