The Sunshine Coast Council is joining the community in an awareness campaign to prevent boat wash from eroding the banks of Currimundi Lake.

Councillor Keryn Jones, council’s environment portfolio holder, said the Currimundi Catchment Care Group’s education program, “6 Knots – No Wash”, highlights the speed limit for boats in Currimundi Lake, creeks and canals.

The initiative – which the group is highlighting all this week – also promotes safe boating practices and is supported by Maritime Safety Queensland, the Environmental Protection Agency, Water Police and council’s Waterways Operations Team.

“This education campaign and the partnerships that support it are all about working with our community to protect and conserve the lake’s fragile and diverse environment,’’ Cr Jones said.
