Cr Thompson - Alexandra Pde gets the works

Arguably one of Alexandra Headland’s most exciting projects – the $3.5 million streetscape program – starts this month.

Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists will all benefit with improved safety around the Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club, while pathways will provide better access to the park, foreshore and beach areas.

Relocated traffic signals will be placed at the Mari St intersection making it safer for all users.

The project will include electrical and stormwater improvements, an upgrade to bus and coach stops and a set-down facility.

These improvements are designed to encourage more community and visitor-use and increase business trade.

Parkyn Pde carpark upgrade

The gravel horse-shoe carpark and walking paths opposite the Yacht Club on Parkyn Pde will undergo a $230,000 upgrade.

The carpark will be sealed and line-marked and a section of the coastal pathway widened to 3.4 metres. Lighting will also be installed.

Staged pathway extensions will improve access for everyone who enjoys walking along this beautiful foreshore area.

Works are expected to start late May/early June if the weather is kind to us.

Anzac Day spirit

Anzac Day, April 25, honours all Australians who have served or paid the supreme sacrifice for their country.

Maroochy RSL will hold a dawn service at 4.28am at the Cenotaph, at The Esplanade, Cotton Tree.

A morning service will also be held and marchers are asked to assemble at 8am outside the Maroochy RSL Club. The marching parade starts at 8.30am and follows Memorial Ave and onto the Cenotaph at Cotton Tree.
