Cr Rogerson calling all keen gardeners

The developers of Maroo Pocket, a recently completed  small rural-residential subdivision at Dulong, have generously donated a 900 square metre block to Council for the purpose of creating a community garden for residents of Dulong and surrounding areas.

As there are already numerous individual community groups within the Dulong area (all with some conflicting views of one another!) I am eager to implement a stand-alone community garden group to facilitate the implementation of this terrific opportunity.

It is my vision that Council will provide a gazebo shelter with picnic tables, a small tool shed and appropriate garden equipment. So all we need now are genuinely interested and passionate gardeners!

New look for old Ambo

One of the Sunshine Coast’s most iconic historical buildings has had a spruce up.

The Old Ambulance Station on Howard Street in Nambour recently underwent an upgrade to its façade, transforming the external appearance of the building and expanding opportunities for the community groups who use it.

Sunshine Coast Council, in coordination with the Sunshine Coast Arts Industry Precinct Inc (SCAIP), carried out  the upgrades with grant funding from the State Government’s Local Government Grants, my Divisional Discretionary Fund and Subsidies Program (LGGSP) contributing to the project.

Improvements include new bifold glass doors opening onto a new patio area, a new awning for protection from the sun and weather – replacing old roller doors – as well as new steps and disabled compliance access.

This iconic building is occupied by SCAIP, which is a great non-profit community organisation that supports local creative community groups by providing a number of facilities including a theatre, recording studio, gallery space and artist space.

This is one of the many quirky, contemporary projects we’ve undertaken or are looking to undertake around Nambour.

Road to recovery

A section of road pavement along Mooloo Crescent, Nambour is showing signs of distress and requires rectification works.

This distress is, in part, caused by the deterioration of a retaining wall and ingress of surface stormwater into the pavement.

Works will soon begin to replace 60m of retaining wall and 60m of kerb and channel. Modifications will also be made to the existing stormwater pit. Removal and reinstatement of the existing guard rail will also be undertaken as part of the works.

Once these works are completed this section of pavement has been identified for resealing. Completion is expected within eight weeks. There will most certainly be access and egress issues for locals in the vicinity of the project whilst works are being undertaken. Whilst this impost is unfortunate, it is extreamly necessary to afford residents ‘safety’ entering and exiting their homes. Thank you to all concerned for your patience.

Keith a cut above..

On a very sad yet proud note, I wish to acknowledge the unbelievable service provided to the Nambour and District Community by hairdresser Keith Lipke and give everyone the ‘heads up’ that Keith has now retired.

Mr Lipke, who has seen 80 years come and go, cut his last head of hair (well commercially at least!) last Saturday morning of the 27th of January. Congratulations on a wonderful career Keith and I wish you great health and happiness in retirement!
