Cr Robinson - Coolum Community Centre relocation
Recently I received a delegation of community members who were seeking to keep the Coolum Community Centre in Jack Morgan Park. As I advised the delegation, the decision to relocate the community centre had been determined some 18 months ago following a comprehensive community consultation program.
Recently I received a delegation of community members who were seeking to keep the Coolum Community Centre in Jack Morgan Park. As I advised the delegation, the decision to relocate the community centre had been determined some 18 months ago following a comprehensive community consultation program. Since that decision in late 2014, council has already arranged for IFYS to relocate to the Coolum Civic Centre.
Council researched a number of suitable alternative sites and determined the optimal location is at the corner of Banksia Ave and Jones Pde. It is within 1km of the current site, as we promised the community. Moving this building will open up Jack Morgan Park as the civic heart of Coolum, as this was the community’s preference for the park. This relocation has been budgeted for and all relevant community groups have been informed.
Lion’s Changeover Dinner
Congratulations to the Coolum Beach Lions and Lioness Clubs for a wonderful changeover dinner at the Coolum Beach Hotel. This event is always a highlight as it gives the clubs an opportunity to showcase all the outstanding community initiatives that have been achieved throughout the year. With literally tens of thousands of dollars donated by the clubs to help fund those in need, the Lions and Lioness Clubs are the backbone of our community and deserve our ongoing support. Worthy recipients of these donations include QIMR Alzheimer’s Research, Lions Prostate Cancer and local schools. I would also like to welcome the new Lions and Lioness committee members for 2016-2017. These volunteers are once again prepared to give up their time to serve our community.
