Celebrating surf lifesaving supporters

It was terrific to attend the Coolum Surf Life Saving Sponsors Appreciation Evening. This event provides the surf club the opportunity to thank sponsors for their ongoing support of surf lifesaving in Coolum. During the presentations from club officials it was clear to see how significant the continued relationship with the business community is to the day to day operations of the club. I personally would like to thank and acknowledge the tremendous role of the club and surf lifesaving in general has in keeping our community safe.

Talking about flying foxes

I recently met with a number of concerned residents about the flying fox roost at the back of Elizabeth Street. The residents were keen for council to undertake more permanent action to stop the flying foxes from returning to this roost. While council will undertake further vegetation management it does not propose to remove large quantities of the existing mature trees. Nevertheless, council is continuing to be proactive in terms of flying fox management with its research and other management strategies and while there are no guarantees, we’re hopeful that the existing small roost does not return.

Meetand greet

This month’s meet and greet was well attended, with key issues being the impending move of the Coolum Community Centre, the new plans for Jack Morgan Park and ongoing concerns about the proposed Sekisui development. My next meet and greet session will be on June 6 at 1-3pm, at the Coolum Library as always.
