Cr OPray - Coast to host World Ironman 70.3
The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship event is coming to the Southern Hemisphere for the very first time in 2016….and the Sunshine Coast has won the right to host it! This is massive news for the region and a big step towards our goal to become Australia’s regional events capital. The half-marathon event is one of the most popular of its kind and the Sunshine Coast had better prepare for a lot of visitors – it attracts people from all around the world to participate and watch. A worldwide spotlight will be on our region and not only will our economy and community benefit during the event, but just think of the ongoing effects when thousands of people get to see what a beautiful place this is to visit. A lot of work has gone in to securing the event and now it’s paid off, so well done and thank you to everyone involved!

Maroochydore City Centre
In other big news for the region, the State Government has approved the development scheme for the game-changing Maroochydore City Centre Priority Development Area. This is a really significant milestone for what is one of the Sunshine Coast’s most exciting developments.
What’s new in Cotton Tree
You might have seen a few new additions to Cotton Tree which have helped make this well-loved area even more vibrant. The very popular ping pong tables at have been jazzed up with some awesome black and white urban artwork, and it looks great! A new pathway has also been installed and trees have been planted. Keep an eye out for other exciting features in the park – good things are on the way.
Improved pool access
Council recently upgraded the pool hoist at Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre to improve access for people with disabilities, and feedback from the community has been truly fantastic! Facilities like this really make a difference to people’s lives and it’s great to see so many people making use of the new hoist. It’s part of a bigger picture to improve access at community facilities all around the Coast.
RADF grants now open
The latest major round of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is now open – it’s a great funding opportunity for artists and arts workers. Visit council’s website for all the details.
