Last week I had the privilege of officially welcoming two woodcarvers visiting the Sunshine Coast on a reciprocal visit –from New Caledonia, and the Marquesa Islands. Our guests made two hand-carved gate sentinels and were excited to take part in the Maleny Wood Expo over the weekend. Congratulations must also go to the organisers of the Maleny Wood Expo for putting on such a wonderful event.

Palmwoods streetscape works underway

Construction of the Palmwoods Streetscape Project is in progress. Construction will take place from May through to December 2017 (weather and site conditions permitting). From Tuesday 2 May to Tuesday 30 May there will be some changes to traffic movement and Main Street will be temporarily converted to one-way traffic heading south from Margaret Street.

This will facilitate the ongoing road widening and prepare for the construction of the new town square. I appreciate the patience of residents while this work is carried out, full details about the construction works are available on the council’s website.

Speed reviews on hinterland roads

Traffic counts were installed on Burgum Road, Maleny on 18 March 2017. Council is currently awaiting data analysis to assist our investigations.

Investigations are also being carried out into the speed limit along Western Avenue at Montville. Council officers will install traffic counts on Montville Road to assist us in our investigations.
