Cr McKay- Palmwoods town square wins national awards
Council was last week proud to receive two awards from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects for the Palmwoods Town Square.
Budget delivers great outcomes for communities across division 5
Continued improvements to local parks and playgrounds, safer and wider rural roads and improved streetscapes and car parking are just some of the highlights for Division 5 in Sunshine Coast Council’s 2018/19 budget.
Rural roads are always high on my agenda, so I’m very pleased to announce that this year’s budget includes $1.7 million for the ongoing upgrade of 1.2km stretch of McGilchrist Rd in Eudlo, $465,000 to widen and upgrade a section of Diamond Valley Rd, $65,450 to upgrade the remainder of Citrus Rd at Palmwoods and $185,000 to upgrade the car park at the local community kindergarten.
Palmwoods Town Square wins national awards
Council was last week proud to receive two awards from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects for the Palmwoods Town Square. Council received an Award of Excellence in the Civic Landscape category for the design and placemaking process we undertook to deliver the Town Square. We also received an award for the Community Contribution category, which recognises our new placemaking ‘activation’ approach we undertook with the community.
I would like to congratulate the community of Palmwoods for their efforts, particularly the Palmwoods Community and Business Association for their ongoing support during the lead up and during the process. Thanks also to the Community arm of the Palmwoods Heritage Bank which contributed $75,000 toward the community boardwalk.
This wonderful new space has been embraced by the whole community- the new free WIFI is proving popular and Council is now receiving inquiries and requests for events in the Green which is great to see.
Fun for kids and adults alike these school holidays
Budding young artists aren’t the only ones with the opportunity to have fun at Mary Cairncross during the school holidays. In addition to hosting a range of wonderful school holiday workshops, the incredible rainforest discovery centre is also welcoming a range of inspiring exhibitions by local artists and hosting hands on workshops in printmaking for adults as well.
If you haven’t discovered this amazing new centre yet, I would encourage you to visit this wonderful facility and explore our natural environment.
Improved amenity for Mooloolah Sport and Recreational grounds
This year’s budget also provides for some new play equipment to compliment the Mooloolah skate bowl and it’s great to see that the walking path is under construction. As of 1 July 2018, two sharps disposal units will also be installed Mooloolah Sports Ground. One unit will be installed in the female toilets and one unit in the male toilet.
