Cr McKay - Mooloolah monthly meeting update

Much of the attention at the meeting was again around increased local vandalism and hooning. I am pushing ahead for Mooloolah township to be included in the CCTV Monitoring Program.  It is now resolved that the skate facility will go on the Mooloolah Community Rec ground as Queensland Rail has reiterated they don’t have any available land.

Keeping our communities connected

Residents will be happy to know keeping pedestrians and cyclists safe and connected as they move about their local neighbourhoods continues to be top of council’s agenda.

This month work will be completed on a 1.8m concrete pathway along the northern side of Brandenburg Road between 7 Fern Gully Place and 36 Brandenburg Road, Mooloolah Valley.

The pathway will include kerb access ramps and connect to the existing network in the area.

For those looking to take a dip and cool down in this increasingly warmer weather, I can advise the Mooloolah pool has reopened and is also planning an ‘Open Day’ on November 12.

Maleny Showgrounds sewer upgrade

Heads up Unitywater is undertaking works to upgrade the sewer main from Cedar Grove Court to the Maleny Showgrounds.

A section of the concrete skate park has to be removed as part of the construction and will be reinstated asap. Full works are scheduled for completion by the end of November (weather permitting).

MFS 25th anniversary

I am very much looking forward to attending the Maleny Film Society’s 25th anniversary event on November 13 at the Maleny Community Centre from 2pm. The event is free and will include a screening of the first MFS film, My Life as a Dog played back in 1991 as well as live entertainment and a memorabilia display.

Grants support for local community

The latest round of successful recipients in council’s Community Grants Program have been announced and it’s exciting news for a number of community groups based in the hinterland area as well as the many community members which their projects will benefit.

Congratulations to all recipients, including:

• The Creche & Kindergarten Association Limited – $2000 to fund an interactive whiteboard for Maleny Community Kindergarten
• Mooloolah Public Hall Association Incorporated – $6000 for the replacement of side exit steps and landing
• Maleny Men's Shed Inc. – $2059 towards a computer training facility
• Sunshine Valley Men’s Shed Inc. –  $6500 for Stage 2 new shed complex
• Montville Chamber of Commerce – $2502 for the Montville Festive Tree Event 2016.

I look forward to seeing all of these wonderful projects come to fruition.
