Cr McKay - Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve building renewal concepts

The community is invited to provide feedback on the building renewal concepts of our beloved Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.

The MCSR building renewal seeks to strengthen the critical role the reserve plays in the conservation and exhibition of flora and fauna, and the scenic values the reserve promotes. This is in line with what the Thynne sisters intended when they gifted the land.

Tree removal in Woombye

Council regularly undertakes maintenance and risk assessment of trees and vegetation in public areas across the Sunshine Coast region.

A recent condition assessment of a number of aging Wattles in the large park on Plantation Rise Drive, Woombye identified several were at differing stages of decline and decay.  For community safety, council will be removing eight damaged, dead or leaning Wattles as soon as possible.

Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan

I was privileged as Chair of the Sunshine Coast Heritage Reference Group to run a recent workshop, to make a start on determining what recent achievements in heritage work could be included in a new Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan.

A number of councillors and key staff came together and we are on our way to creating this important inclusive plan – I’ll keep you up to date on its findings.

Woombye State School parking changes

Heads up that parking outside of Woombye State School is soon to become regulated and long term parking will no longer be an option.
