Community grants
Our not-for-profit community groups play an important role across our region – helping to offer vital services and support. However, indirectly Sunshine Coast Council plays a role by offering grants to support these groups’ operations. The demand for grants far exceeded the available funds, however I’m glad to hear that some worthy projects in Division 9 have received funding from the most recent round of community grants, including Weyba Downs group Integrity Queensland.
The group has received funding for their progressive and experimental art project – called Integrity – which will aim to inspire people to make more sustainable choices.
In Doonan, the I Give A Buck Foundation of Australia has received funding for drainage, lighting and solar panels to improve a stable block.
Sunshine Coast Airport new runway 13/31
The new international runway and associated infrastructure has been completed by council at the Sunshine Coast Airport, with the first plane landing on Sunday 14 June 2020. The new runway is expected to provide benefits for our region, including financial growth to our economy over the next 20 years, generate additional jobs, and expand our domestic and international travel and export opportunities.
This will be a big change to newly overflown communities. I urge you to familiarise yourself with the Sunshine Coast Airport’s fly neighbourly policy which is available on Sunshine Coast Airport’s website. Any noise complaints can be lodged with Airservices Australia on Freecall 1800 802 584 or online at www.airservicesaustralia.com.
