Council snaps up wildlife award

I was pleased to have council’s wonderful Environment Levy Program recognised and rewarded by one of the country’s largest non-for-profit organisations, Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors recently.

Council snapped up the "2015 Group Wildlife Conservation Award" at the prestigious Steve Irwin Gala in recognition of our progressive suite of environmental programs.

While being honoured with this prestigious award by the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors is very exciting, it will not distract us from our ultimate purpose of delivering outcomes which assist to protect and enhance our valuable natural assets.

Maroochy botanic gardens

Wall tells story of Eudlo

I was delighted to officially unveil the Eudlo Story Wall to the community this week – a 3m long wall featuring a gallery of clay tiles decorated by local residents and Eudlo State School students capturing the story of their town, past and present.

Truly a stunning and heart-warming piece of artwork, the local community should be incredibly proud of.

Become a furry foster parent and help save lives

Last week I joined Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge Society (SCARS) as they put out a desperate call to the community to help them keep saving cats and dogs. For the first time ever, SCARS is seeking the public’s assistance with fostering of these unwanted pets.

This program has always been run internally, utilising SCARS volunteers as carers, however, the demand and need this wonderful refuge is facing is too great for this to continue as is.

By becoming a foster carer people will be directly helping save lives.
