The consultation phase for the Draft Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2012 will begin within a matter of weeks following State Government approval to proceed.

Regional Planning Portfolio Councillor Russell Green said this will be one of the most comprehensive consultation processes undertaken on the Coast.

When finalised, the new Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme will replace the three existing planning schemes— Caloundra City Plan 2004, Maroochy Plan 2000 and _The Noosa Plan 2006_—as the tool used by Sunshine Coast Council to manage land use and development for the region in a sustainable way.

Councillor Green said the new council has put its stamp on the draft planning scheme, ensuring a balanced approach to planning across the region.

"The new plan has to cater for a sustainable future—it needs to encourage investment and jobs, it needs to protect and enrich our unique places while also preparing for growth in new communities and it needs to preserve our valuable natural assets," Cr Green said.

"The new planning scheme is welcomed as a tool to give both our residents, and those thinking of moving here, a clear understanding of the planning regulations and policies across the Coast.

"Council staff have worked with local communities across the region to develop a wide range of strategies to help form the foundation of this draft planning scheme.

"I am excited about being able to take the draft planning scheme out into our communities, and look I forward to hearing their feedback on this blueprint for our future."

Council will undertake public consultation across the region from 19 October until 14 December 2012.

Details about the draft Sunshine Coast planning scheme are available on council’s website. Further details will be added as the consultation activities are finalised.
