Sunshine Coast Council has approved the development of a 142-unit residential complex at 65 Sippy Downs Dr, Sippy Downs.
Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said the Habitat Central Apartments development would act as a catalyst for Sippy Downs’ economy.
“This exciting development will provide residential accommodation adjacent to the University of the Sunshine Coast and Sippy Downs Town Centre,” Cr Dickson said.
“More people living in the area will create additional demand for a range of services and encourage commercial developments.
“The complex is just a short five-minute walk from USC and is on a public transport route.
"It will provide an additional accommodation option for the university’s growing student population.
“These apartments are the latest of many great projects slated for Sippy Downs, including a much-needed childcare centre and a proposed Coles supermarket.
“Council will undertake some of the road works required for this development – at Habitat Developments’ expense – to shorten the construction time frame and minimise disruption to traffic.”
Councillor Dickson said the upgrade to Sippy Downs Drive was almost complete.
“Traffic will be switched onto the northbound road this week so construction of the southbound road can commence," he said.
“The Sippy Downs Drive upgrade will be completed by the end of November, weather permitting.”
