Council and Energex to tackle graffiti
Sunshine Coast Council and Energex will sign their first agreement to work together to remove graffiti from electricity infrastructure throughout the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Coast Council and Energex will sign their first agreement to work together to remove graffiti from electricity infrastructure throughout the Sunshine Coast.
The Memorandum of Understanding, to be officially signed off at SES Headquarters in Mountain Creek on Friday, will operate for a period of four years until June 2014.
The MOU sets out the roles and responsibilities of both organistions in proactively removing graffiti vandalism and identifying ways to improve the ongoing management of graffiti throughout the Sunshine Coast.
Community Policy and Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the MOU was a giant leap forward in strengthening the two organisation’s joint commitment to reducing the incidence of graffiti on the Sunshine Coast.
It builds on the success of a similar MOU which has been in place between council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads since December 2008.
“This agreement will send a clear message to graffiti vandals that graffiti is not welcome on the Sunshine Coast and enhance the image of the region,“ she said.
“The community has made it clear that they want to see an end to the defacement of public infrastructure.
“We are with them 100 per cent on that and hope that this MOU will increase community confidence that we all want to live in a safe and vibrant region.”
