Cooroy painted pink for the National Breast Cancer Foundation

Sunshine Coast Council’s Cooroy library and the local community looked pretty in pink on Thursday 17 October at the 2013 Pink Precinct Fun Trail and raised more than $850 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).

Division 12 Councillor Tony Wellington was joined by more than 150 dedicated participants and one dog who all came dressed in their best pink outfits and followed a surprise trail around the Mill Place Precinct. Cooroy’s local businesses generously donated a range of wonderful prizes and supported this much-loved annual event.

A new addition this year to the festivities was the Smoothie Bike provided by Sunshine Coast Council. This proved popular with locals who used pedal power to whip up pink smoothies as a reward after all the hard work people put in on the Trail. Ingredients were donated by Pardons Fruit Market and Super IGA and the beautiful smoothies were produced by pedal power for the thirsty walkers!

The event included a touching presentation by Carolyn McKinlay who shared her personal journey to battle and overcome breast cancer.

NBCF is Australia’s leading community-supported organisation dedicated to supporting high quality research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.

When the NBCF was founded, 30% of women diagnosed with breast cancer lost their battle with the disease. In less than 20 years, this figure has halved. NBCF CEO Carole Renouf believes this achievement is primarily due to research – the most effective way to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.

The contribution from activities such as 2013 Pink Precinct Fun Trail, will help bring NBCF closer to their goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. NBCF encourages you to support this initiative and make a real difference to the many lives that have been affected by breast cancer.
