Christmas has come early for AFL fans with Sunshine Coast Council announcing Cartlon Football Club’s community open session will be held this Sunday (December 17) at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex as part of their pre-season training preparations.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said council was thrilled to be welcoming the Blues to the Coast for their pre-season camp for the first time in several years.
“With the school holidays upon us this is great timing to get the family together to watch and interact with an elite sporting team,” Cr O’Pray said.
“The high quality sporting facilities we have in our region, along with great weather conditions, provides a fantastic combination for professional sporting teams to prepare ahead of the start of their competition.”
“With the last five AFL premiership winners all holding their pre-season training camps on the Sunshine Coast, next season’s competition will definitely be one to watch as we go for a super six in a row.
“These camps provide our community with great economic and social benefits by contributing to the Sunshine Coast becoming known as a high-quality sporting destination and adding to the $440 million per year in economic activity that comes from the sports economy.”
The community open session will be held at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex on Fisherman’s Road from 8.30am.
