Choose your favourite Dicky Beach Skate Park design

The popular Dicky Beach skate park is set to be revived and refreshed and Sunshine Coast Council is asking the community to choose their favourite design.

Following public consultation, three unique designs have been developed for the new skate park which forms part of council’s Dicky Beach Precinct Plan.

The precinct plan was developed in response to the partial removal of the SS Dicky wreck in 2015.

A community survey was conducted earlier this year to determine the new skate park’s features, Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer describing the response as ‘fantastic’.

“The community provided plenty of input to help us come up with these three design options and I again encourage as many people as possible to have their say on their preferred final design,” Cr Dwyer said.

“This will be a greatly improved, high-quality and contemporary skate facility within Dicky Beach Park and forms an important component of the broader Dicky Beach Precinct Plan.

“The plan aims to reflect council’s healthy, smart, creative vision by focusing on improving access to the beach, opening up the park for improved recreational use, improving sight lines to the beach and interpretive elements, and allowing for the construction of a new public amenities building.”

Feedback on the skate park design can be submitted via an online survey on council’s website.

The survey will close at 5pm, Friday, June 14, 2019.

Construction for the Dicky Beach Precinct Plan is expected to start in 2020 and will be completed in stages, subject to budget.

The following draft construction schedule has been developed, subject to annual funding confirmation:

2020: New public amenities building constructed.

2021: Skate park reconfigured and upgraded.

2022: Main SS Dicky interpretive area constructed and new Coastal Pathway alignment to be constructed.

2023: Car park reconfigured. New caravan park fence (east) with interpretive components constructed.
