Celebrations continue this weekend as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast

A festival, film screenings, magic show and concert are just a few of the events on this weekend to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast.

A festival, film screenings, magic show and concert are just a few of the events on this weekend to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast.

The Eumundi World Cinema will kick off festivities on Friday night with a screening of A Perfect Day at the Eumundi School of Arts. The black comedy is showing along with two comedy shorts. Tickets are available at the door for $10.

The Festival of Community Halls continues this weekend with Kureelpa, Eudlo and Maleny halls celebrating their historical significance with a number of activities on offer for the whole family.

Get the family along to Kureelpa on Saturday from 10am and join in the free Tramstop Festival which includes guided walks along the tramway, movies showcasing footage of the tram’s journey, market stalls, entertainment and food fresh from the Blackall Range Independent School garden. A gold coin donation is appreciated.

Next stop, head over to Eudlo to watch the hilarious and quirky performance by Dandyman and Ruby Rubberlegs from 2pm. Kids of all ages will amazed, bemused, confused and enthralled as they watch a mix of comedy and top-notch circus skills. This is a free event and afternoon tea and snacks will be available for purchase.

Also on show Saturday afternoon is a film screening by Cinemaworks Electric Theatre in Kenilworth. The First and Last is the story of two films separated by 104 years in production but both are about the Moreton Sugar Mill and local sugar industry. Screening starts at 2pm and tickets are available at the door.

If listening to melodic orchestral sounds is more your thing then you must not miss the Virtuosity, Fantasy and Revolution performance on Sunday, August 27 from 2.30pm to 6pm at the Maleny Community Centre.  Conducted by Antoni Bonetti, the performance features violinist Warwick Adeney. Tickets are available for purchase at the door and children are free.
