It's official, Caloundra is Queensland’s Tidiest Town.

The announcement was made at the annual Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland gala awards ceremony, where Caloundra out-performed 70 other entrants to collect the top prize for 2011.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the award was a credit to the local community and Sunshine Coast Council.

“The former Caloundra Council won this award in 2008 and it’s very encouraging to see that those same high standards of service are being delivered by Sunshine Coast Council in 2011,” he said.

“Our best efforts have certainly been helped by the local community that really does play a very proactive role in the positive look and feel of Caloundra and this award recognises their strong civic pride as well.”

Keep Australia Beautiful CEO, Rick Burnett said Caloundra had been outstanding in all categories, including litter prevention, energy and waste reduction and environmental protection.

“The gateway to the Sunshine Coast is now the Keep Australia Beautiful champion of the Sunshine State,” he said.

Caloundra will soon vie for the title of Australia’s Tidiest Town at the national awards.
