The Caloundra Mini Festival featuring Luminate! will spread music love and light around Caloundra from October 1-5, following the approval of a COVID Safe Plan by Queensland Health.

Venues will come alive with keen local talent ready to burst back onto stage in lieu of the Caloundra Music Festival this year.

The music line-up features a long list of local performers, including Anna and Jordan, Hayden Hack, MISMO TEMPO, Soula and more.

The festival will showcase local performers at venues including Drift Bar, Whispers Cocktail Bar and Lounge, Coffee Cat, Caloundra RSL, Caloundra Power Boat Club, The Events Centre, Caloundra Twilight Markets and even The Strand.

For fans of Russell Morris AM there will be a special up close and personal performance at The Events Centre on the Friday evening, to share his new album, Black and Blue Heart.

For the long weekend, a free three-night walk through festival called Luminate! will light up Caloundra from October 2-4, between 6 and 10pm.

Light installations will provide a new cultural experience for the Sunshine Coast, in conjunction with a special return of the Twilight Markets.

Felicity Park and the boardwalk along The Esplanade will be fully immersed in light installations created by Sunshine Coast artists.

Award-winning Sunshine Coast based digital media expert and projection artist James Muller, recently featured in the Horizon Festival, is one of many artists taking part in Luminate!

Light Portal by Tricktronix is an interactive art installation that puts the audience in control of a super kaleidoscope machine.

Bulcock Street Catenary lights (image above) will be a bright new and lasting centre piece for the walking trail.

Division 2 Councillor Terry Landsberg said the festival was a great way for Sunshine Coast Council to support local businesses by attracting visitors to the area and provide a wonderful experience for attendees.

“This links in perfectly with the giant Skyline wheel on the Caloundra beachfront, offering the chance to get a 35m-high bird’s-eye view of our region and it looks spectacular lit up at night,” Cr Landsberg said.

“This is also a great opportunity to help local performers get back into venues.

“We might not be able to hold our Caloundra Music Festival this year – but this is the next best thing. It’s an outdoor moving cultural experience that allows people to physically distance while enjoy the best the Sunshine Coast has to offer.”

The COVID Safe Plan approved by Queensland Health, sets out a checklist of COVID safe priorities that will be met to comply with Industry Guidelines and/or legislation and ensure the safe operation of the Luminate! event.

Luminate! is a partnership between Sunshine Coast Council, Downtown Caloundra Taskforce and Caloundra Chamber of Commerce.

Luminate is supported by the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland, and features on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar.
