The 50m swimming pool at the Caloundra Aquatic Centre has received a valuable upgrade as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s ongoing commitment to providing quality community recreation venues.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the 50m pool water filtration units servicing the 30-year-old heated pool had been replaced with new technology which provided improved water quality, significant water savings and reduced electricity and chemical costs.

“Patrons will certainly notice the difference when swimming at this valued community facility,” Cr Dwyer said.

“Ratepayers will also benefit through significant savings to Council running costs.

“In terms of water savings, the previous four sand filters required a weekly backwash water release of approximately 40,000 litres per week during peak usage while the new single regenerative filter will release only about 3000 litres per month.”

Caloundra Aquatic Centre Manager Chris Bray said water quality was a high priority and this upgrade would greatly assist in continuing to maintain a high standard sought by the community.
