Caloundra’s best fishing and recreation spots are set to be featured to a national audience with a Fishing Australia Sunshine Coast special to air on WIN and Ten on Saturday afternoon (July 22).

Fishing Australia program host and Pelican Waters resident Rob Paxevanos said the television special, to screen from 1.30pm, would also promote the five-part online Caloundra fishing webisodes series that will show visitors and locals alike how to make the most of the family angling fun offered at Caloundra.

“The area around Caloundra and the Pumicestone Passage is a gorgeous part of the world and offers fantastic fishing and recreation spots for visitors, locals and families,” Mr Paxevanos said.

“These webisodes will give some inside information about the best places to go and some simple, fun techniques to put a rod in and reel in a good catch while having some fun in the great outdoors.

“I moved to the Sunshine Coast a few years ago and I’m excited to showcase it’s beauty to millions of Australian viewers, both through the Fishing Australia special and the webisodes.”

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the Fishing Australia special is a great opportunity to highlight Caloundra and its fun, family friendly recreation activities..

“The TV special and webisodes are a great initiative to highlight the natural beauty of the Caloundra region to a national audience while providing valuable information about where to go so everyone can get involved,” Cr Dwyer said.

“We want to encourage as many people and families to get outside and take advantage of the fantastic fishing and recreation spots we have available right on our doorstep.”

Caloundra Chamber of Commerce President Mike Shadforth said the fishing opportunities in the area were outstanding and so easy to access.

“Angling is a popular activity and we’ve got the Pumicestone Passage as well as the beaches and offshore to offer,” Mr Shadforth said.

“There are plenty of businesses in Caloundra who rely on our waterways from tourism through to boat sales and fishing retailers.

“Highlighting Caloundra as a great place for anyone in the family to wet a line is a new and exciting angle for us.”
