Budget for Division 7 invests in the future, while delivering now

One million dollars towards implementing the Maroochy Multi-Sports Facility Development Plan, a $222,000 upgrade to the Buderim Village Park carpark and a new $175,000 pathway on Crosby Hill Rd, Buderim are three of the big ticket items for Division 7 in Sunshine Coast Council’s 2018/19 budget.

Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford said council’s $864 million budget included a mix of projects to help deliver a positive future and build Australia’s healthy, smart, creative region.

“I’m pleased to see council’s commitment of $1 million towards the Maroochy Multi-Sports Facility Development Plan, which will enable a number of enhancements to support both high-level and community-based sporting events,” Cr Hungerford said.

“The complex will receive additional changerooms, referee/umpire rooms, medical rooms, office space for AFL, a gymnasium, reconfiguration of meeting/ function space and media/official rooms.

“A further $350,000 has been allocated towards the detailed design and implementation of the new eastern playing surface, including surveys, geotech, civil designs, operational works, turf, irrigation, drainage and field lighting with additional car parking opportunities to support the increased number of people using the complex

“A recreation pathway around the perimeter will also be constructed to support informal recreation/training opportunities if funding allows.

“New $25,000 air-conditioning will also be installed in the AFL building and $40,000 will be invested in renewing the security system.”

Cr Hungerford said the 2018/19 budget allowed for the division’s parks, gardens and beautiful greenery to continue to be a key focus in the coming year.

“I’m very proud of the developments made to date on Buderim Village Park which continues to go from strength to strength as the staged masterplan unfolds, creating a special outdoor place which we can all enjoy,” he said.

“This year we will see $222,000 put towards the design and construction of upgrading the existing sealed and unsealed car parks at Buderim Village Park, including kerb and channel, underground stormwater drainage, asphalt surfacing and lighting.”

Cr Hungerford said pathways and connectivity were another priority of the budget for Division 7.

“I am happy to see $175,000 will be invested in a new concrete pedestrian pathway up Crosby Hill Rd and adjoining streets and another $96,000 has been put aside to replace 384 metres of pathway at North Buderim Blvd near Woodlands Cres, Buderim,” he said.

Division 7 highlights for the 2018/19 budget include:

• $1 million for the Maroochydore Multi-Sports Complex
• $430,000 for stormwater quality management at the Fishermans Rd roundabout, Maroochydore
• $247,000 for upgrades to Buderim Village Park
• $316,000 to the design and masterplan concept for Sandalwood Lane, Forest Glen
• $300,000 towards the Bradman Ave Foreshore Design implementation, Maroochydore
• $175,000 to construct Crosby Hill Rd pathway, Buderim
• $82,270 for the next stage of of Milne Park on Mons Rd, Mons
• $25,000 for the further upgrade to White Lookout, Buderim
• $20,000 to renew the Foote Memorial Sanctuary public amenities, Buderim
• $8000 to replace the pirate ship in the Buderim Lions Park playground, Buderim
