Brisbane Road upgrade takes shape

The $4.5 million duplication of Tuckers Creek Bridge – the first stage of Sunshine Coast Council’s Brisbane Road Upgrade Project – has reached a milestone, with the roadway decking now in place.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said that when completed, the Brisbane Road upgrade will help to create a sense of arrival to Mooloolaba and would provide a pedestrian, bike and bus friendly environment.

"Brisbane Road is the gateway to Mooloolaba, an area that plays a vital role in driving the region’s tourism economy. When the upgrade is complete it will help to boost the local economy and create a real sense of arrival to the entrance Mooloolaba, while still respecting its village feel," Mayor Jamieson said.

Deputy Mayor, Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said the upgrade project would benefit Sunshine Coast residents and visitors alike.

"When complete, the upgrade will make it safer and easier for people to access Mooloolaba, which of course benefits residents, visitors and local business owners," Cr Thompson said.

The upgrade will see the length of road between Culbara Street and Venning Street in Mooloolaba widened to four lanes in multiple stages over a number of years.

Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie and Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the Newman Government has contributed $1.1 million to the Brisbane Road Upgrade project.

"State funding has been allocated for the design and construction of on-road cycle lanes and off-road shared paths along Brisbane Road," Mr Bleijie said.

"This project will deliver better infrastructure and planning and provide better access for families wanting to use cycle lanes," Ms Simpson said.
