Stylish new townhouses are set for construction at the emerging Brightwater residential estate thanks to a recent development approval by Sunshine Coast Council.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said the multiple dwelling townhouses provide a good range of housing options to suit the wide demographic of homebuyers looking at moving into the area.

“The new residential development will be built at 49 to 67 Attenuata Drive in Mountain Creek and will comprise 20 two bedroom homes and 70 three bedroom homes. The development is in a fantastic location opposite the proposed shopping centre and future community centre and right near local schools and the Mooloolah River,” Cr Dickson said.

“The developers and planning consultants made the most of council’s free pre-lodgement meetings and met with council planning staff on a number of occasions to make sure the application met with planning scheme requirements.

“A number of potential issues were sorted out in the early stages and that meant a fast approval timeframe of only 25 days.

“The development will be constructed over two stages and construction is expected to start within the next two months.”

RPS Planning consultant Ben Heaton said the open lines of communication they had with council both prior to lodgement and during the assessment process meant that issues could be addressed without the need for a formal information request.

“This was critical to the success of the project, as timeframes for construction of Stage 1 are very tight,” Mr Heaton said.

“This is the latest of many approvals for Brightwater Estate that have been processed by council in a short-timeframe, due to the collaborative approach adopted by council staff and the applicant’s consultant team.”

UDIA Sunshine Coast branch President Andrew Stevens said council should be applauded for the role they had played in the fast tracking of the approval for the Brightwater townhouse project.

“We are really starting to see the benefits of council’s ‘open for business’ approach which is fantastic news for the local economy as these types of projects create a number of new jobs and help circulate money throughout the community,” Mr Stevens said.

“An approval for a project of this scale in just 25 days would have been unheard of not all that long ago so it’s great news that council is being proactive and expediting local developments. There is no doubt that we are starting to see some ‘green shoots’ emerge in the local economy and Council can play a critical role in seeing these projects come to fruition.”
