Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the community was invited to join in the free celebrations to mark the special milestone in Caloundra Regional Gallery’s life.
“As with every birthday celebration, there will be a cake with candles to blow out. The Gallery’s family-friendly event, affectionately named BlowOUT, includes entertainment for everyone,” Cr Dwyer said.
“The park will come alive with live bands showcasing successful applicants to Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund, including Hayden Hack Infusion, The Flumes, All Strings Attached and more, as well as roving entertainment, a laneway bar and food stalls, live art performances, street projections and interactive workshops until 10.30pm.”
The Gallery’s 15th birthday coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Art Prize.
“BlowOUT will also see the Caloundra Regional Gallery alive with music, dance and theatre – all set amongst an exhibition of one of the richest art awards in Australia – the Sunshine Coast Art Prize Two Dimensional Finalist Exhibition which has again attracted work from some of the best contemporary and emerging artists our nation has to offer,” Cr Dwyer said
“Never before has the Caloundra Regional Gallery and Felicity Park been such a lively creative precinct.
“While you have you diary out, make sure you book in to attend the announcement of the winning artwork for the Two Dimensional Award on Friday, September 4.
“This will be another jam-packed celebration of arts and culture, showcasing our best local contemporary artists alongside the nation’s best.
“The Two Dimensional Award provides a distinguished contribution to the national art calendar and will be on display at Caloundra Regional Gallery until October 11.”
The Two Dimensional Award is one of numerous award categories within the Sunshine Coast Art Prize 10th anniversary celebration, with more than $125,000 in cash prizes available for artists. Mediums include painting, sculpture, public art, photography and new media.
The BlowOUT birthday party on August 21 and the winner’s announcement on September 4 are just two of dozens of creative showcases, events and gatherings held throughout spring right across the Sunshine Coast region.
