One of Australia’s leading theatre and screen actors James Millar will host this year’s Sunshine Coast Mayoral Ball on Saturday, October 13.
Now in its third year, the annual Mayoral Ball will be held in a new location - the Ritz Ballroom at Aussie World.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said the Mayoral Ball had become one of the iconic events on the Sunshine Coast and was noted for its high quality food and entertainment and minimal formalities which allowed attendees to enjoy the night dancing or socialising with their guests.
“The Mayoral Ball is all about looking good, feeling good and doing good,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“Over the past two years, we have raised a significant amount of funds for SunnyKids as well as a number of smaller charities who do not have the capacity to undertake an event of this magnitude.
“I get a lot of positive feedback from people about the night and it’s one our previous guests are marking in their calendar well in advance so they don’t miss out.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing James perform on the night.
“It’s a credit to the event organisers that we’ve been able to secure someone of his stature for this year’s Mayoral Ball and his very presence will ensure it will be a very successful night.
“We have a limited number of tables this year and I encourage everyone interested in attending to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
SunnyKids president Karen Neuendorf said she was thrilled to have someone of James’ calibre act as Master of Ceremonies.
“We were delighted when we heard James was keen to be a part of this year’s event, James is a multiple award winning Australian theatre and film actor and an accomplished writer.
"His most recent role was playing Miss Trunchbull in Tim Minchin’s multi award winning Matilda the Musical where he received the prestigious 2016 Helpmann Award.
“As well as hosting the event, James will also be joining the big band to sing a few of his favourite songs and he has a few other surprises in store I hear.
"Aussie World’s The Shed will be unrecognisable as it is transformed into to Ritz Ballroom ready for a night of great food, dancing and entertainment while we raise much needed funds for SunnyKids and a number of other local charities."
